Being a Southern Belle and growing up with wealth you never had to do a day of work in your life. But when you married a musician from Baton Rouge your days of lavish living were over. Things got tougher when your husband went to war and the Army was late on his first couple paychecks. Having learned how to sew from your Nanny, you were forced to take up a job sewing parachutes together for Airborne Infantry soldiers. It was tough at first and you had more cuts and pricks on your fingers than you could ever imagine. But you began to feel proud with a sense of purpose that what you were doing was helping to win the war.
